What affects your heating & cooling quote
These are the things we ask about, and we ask about them because each one changes what a contractor will charge. Knowing your answers before you call makes the quotes you get more accurate.

- Over 15 years and replacing often beats repairing. Options we ask about: under 5 years, 5 to 15 years, over 15 years, i do not know.
- What is the situation right now?
- No heat or no cooling gets flagged to our team as urgent. Options we ask about: no heat or no cooling at all, working, but badly, working fine, planning ahead.
We do not publish price ranges for heating & cooling because an honest range depends on your ZIP code, the size and access of the property, and what local labour and materials cost this month. A contractor who has seen your details can tell you; a national average cannot.

- Is it really free to get heating & cooling quotes?
- Yes. HomeQuoteDesk never charges homeowners, and there is no charge for being matched or for the quotes themselves. We are paid by the contractors in our network, not by you. You are also never obliged to hire anyone — comparing quotes and walking away costs nothing.
- Will I get bombarded with calls?
- No. One specialist from HomeQuoteDesk calls you once to confirm the details of your request. Only after that do we introduce you to local contractors. We do not publish or sell your number to a call list, which is what causes the five-calls-in-ten-minutes experience people associate with quote sites.
- How many quotes will I get?
- Usually two to four, depending on how many vetted contractors cover your ZIP code and do that specific type of work. We would rather send you three genuine quotes than six from companies who cannot actually take the job.
- How are the contractors checked?
- Before a contractor receives any homeowner details, we confirm they hold the license their state requires for the work and that their liability insurance is current. We re-check as those expire. We do not vet on price or workmanship, so you should still read reviews and ask for references before you sign anything.
- How quickly will someone contact me?
- We aim to call within business hours on the same day you submit, and requests marked urgent — an active leak, no heat, water coming in — go to the front of the queue. Requests submitted overnight are picked up the next morning.
- What information do I have to give?
- Your name, phone number, email address, and the property address, plus a few questions about the job itself. We need the address because contractors quote based on location and travel, and the phone number because confirming details by voice takes a minute and prevents a wasted site visit.
- Can I change my mind after submitting?
- Yes. Tell the specialist when they call and we will stop there — no contractors are introduced. You can also ask us to stop contacting you at any point, on any call, and we will not call again.
